Bread Body Experience...

We used this experience (Bread Body) during our 2006 mission trips and God used it in powerful way. It's a great experience on its own or could be used as a lead in to Communion depending on your church and how you'd like to use it. Easter will be here before you know it. Have a blessed Easter full of joy for we know he is RISEN!

Bread Body* (Printable PDF)

Group Mission Trips 2006

(The presenter retrieves a basket filled with 11 loaves of Italian (long) bread and 1 loaf of Shepherd's (round) bread and slowly takes them out and configures them into the shape of a body while someone reads the following text.  Slowly…)

Are you searching for spiritual fulfillment? Are you hungry for the Bread of Life?

God knows we get hungry-physically and spiritually.  Just like the famished Israelites wandering in the wilderness, we wander…we wonder…

God promised to provide for them.  So new, every morning, a thin, flakey bread-like food rained down on them like dew.  They called their food from heaven, manna, which literally means "what is it?"  (Exodus 16)

In spite of the Israelites' constant whining and grumbling, God continued to be their Full Service provider.

But even more than a physical Full Service provider, God is our spiritual Full Service Provider.

When Jesus came to earth, he said, "It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but every word that comes from the mouth of God."  (Matthew 4:4)

When Jesus taught us to pray, he said,"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."  (Matthew 5:9-13)

When people questioned Jesus, Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." (John 6:32-33)

Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never go thirsty… "(John 6:35)

"I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.  I am the bread of life.  Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died.  But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die.  I am the living bread that came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever."  (John 6:47-51)

Remember, "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: who being in the very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.  But made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-even death on a cross!"  (Philippians 2:5-8)

(Presenter slowly begins covering the bread with the sheet, tucking it close around the loaves to reveal the shape of a body.)

"Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."  (Philippians 2:9-11)

…Jesus, he took on human form-to be a Full Service sacrifice for our sins.

Jesus used bread during a special meal with his closest friends.  "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, 'Take and eat; this is my body.'"  (Matthew 26:26)

(On "this is my body," the presenter pauses and respectfully views the body for a long time.  After 40 seconds or so, the presenter slowly pulls back the sheet.  Then the presenter takes a loaf and breaks it.)

"I am the bread of life."

(The presenter moves from behind the table, lifts the two halves and looks into the crowd to offer bread.  Let the Spirit move-don't pre-assign plants to come forward.  After the first few people come, assistants may take other loaves from behind the table and stand across the front to help the bread experience move more quickly and smoothly.)
