Home Repair (Small)

Small Workcamps inspire your teenagers in big ways…

Your mission trip will be five days—Sunday through Friday morning—and you’ll pack in enough spiritual growth to fuel your youth group for months. As your teenagers serve people in need, they’ll grow closer the Christ!

You’ll repair homes (you don’t need to have construction skills). Befriend elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged residents whose homes have fallen into disrepair. Share with other adults and teenagers who’ve come to make a difference.

RECENT QUOTE: "...just wanted to let you know that, despite grumbling beforehand, my students LOVED the small work camp format. They spent a lot more time getting to know students from other groups and I even took them to Pennsylvania this past weekend so they could go to Homecoming with some of their Work Camp friends. We had always done the large format before so they really weren't excited for the small one - but now they want to go on a small one again!  It was pretty exciting." - Jaime W., Director of Youth and Children's Ministries

Quick description:

  • A 5-day home repair experience
  • Capped at 99 participants per trip
  • For ages 12-20 (Junior//Senior Combos)
  • In keeping with the family setting, you’ll serve participants, too. Share meal preparation, clean up, and caring for the facility where you’re staying.

You'll tackle projects like:

  • Interior and exterior painting
  • Building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps
  • Building or repairing steps
  • Weatherizing and other home repairs

You can expect:

  • To work in small teams of four or five teenagers with one or two adults, each person fulfilling an important role
  • To gather in the evening for a time of intimate, interactive, God-centered worship. Programs (designed by the youth ministry experts at Group Magazine) are coordinated by a staff member, but you, your young people, and other participants will take the lead in sharing music and participating in other program elements.
  • To be supported by a staff of five to seven ministry-minded people, including three highly trained college-age leaders.
  • To provide one adult (21+ years) for every five youth you bring

Additional Information:

  • Arrive on Sunday afternoon and depart the following Friday morning.
  • Expect a close, connected experience—with your group and participants from other churches.
  • Project crews typically serve the same resident for the entire week, creating an environment where meaningful relationships develop. And, projects are designed to be completed during the week, allowing your teenagers to experience the satisfaction of a job well done.
  • You'll lodge at a school, college, church or other similar facility. Be prepared to sleep on classrooms floors, eat, and shower at the facility.
  • Enjoy hot breakfasts, picnic lunches, and hot suppers. And, we'll take care of the meals and facility cleanup for you.
  • You'll be given a half day to explore the area, please be prepared to purchase your evening meal on that day.
  • You and your group will make new friends while serving on project teams with people from other churches. Or, if you desire, we can keep you together with people from your own group.
  • Safety is priority #1. A minimum of 1 adult is required for every 5 teenagers. Power saws are used by adults only. Plus, you’ll have comprehensive safety training. And, all adults (staff and participants) 21+ are required to be screened with formal background checks through a National Criminal Indicator Database.
  • Trips are for youth groups (minimum one adult and one teenager).
  • Plan to bring at least one adult (age 21 or over) for every 5 teenagers. Adults serve on project teams with teenagers.
  • Additional adults (beyond the 5-to-1 ratio), may apply online for a staff position. If chosen as a volunteer staff member, your registration fee is waived.
  • Registration includes lodging, meals, construction materials and/or project supplies, a theme t-shirt, development of program and devotions, comprehensive project preparation and online leader manual, program supplies, Mission Handbook, project selection, project organization administration, staff, and unlimited customer support.
  • Be prepared to bring supplies such as ladders, painting supplies, and construction tools including circular saws, electric drills, hammers, etc.
  • You’ll need to provide transportation for your group to and from your lodging location…and your vehicles will be used to provide daily transport back and forth from the project sites.
