Home Repair

Your teenagers will serve as they’ve never served before—in tangible, practical ways. For six days they’ll repair sagging porches, rebuild unsafe steps—and transform a house as God transforms their faith.

And you don’t need to be a construction guru to have a satisfying experience. All you and your youth group need is a willingness to serve the elderly, disabled, or disadvantaged.

Quick description:

  • A 6-day home repair experience
  • Up to 400 participants per trip
  • For ages 12-20 (senior high and junior/senior combos)
  • We’ll handle the logistics and details (including cooking and cleaning!) so you and your youth group can focus on growing in your faith

You'll tackle projects like:

  • Interior and exterior painting
  • Building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps
  • Building or repairing steps
  • Weatherizing and other home repairs

You can expect:

  • To work in small teams of four or five teenagers with one or two adults, each person fulfilling an important role
  • To enjoy high-impact devotions and daily interactive programs packed with music, Scripture, media, drama, and challenges—led by a trained youth ministry professional and a song leader. All designed by the experts at Group Magazine to help you shape your teenagers’ service experience into a spiritual growth experience.
  • To be supported by a well-trained staff including a trip Director, Program Leader, Song Leader, and up to 14 additional staff dedicated to running the programs, office, materials room, and more.
  • To provide one adult (21+ years) for every five youth you bring

What to expect on a "Challenge" trip:

  • Everything from the regular home repair trips—plus the chance for your young people to learn new construction skills!
  • More challenging projects—including roof repair work on some projects.

Additional Information:

  • Arrive on Sunday afternoon and departing the following Saturday morning.
  • Expect a big-event feel. Up to 75 homes will be repaired during the week.
  • Project crews typically serve the same resident for the entire week, creating an environment where meaningful relationships develop. And, projects are designed to be completed during the week, allowing your teenagers to experience the satisfaction of a job well done.
  • You'll lodge at a school, college, church or other similar facility. Be prepared to sleep on classrooms floors, eat, and shower at the facility. A limited number of locations offer semi-private housing with some amenities.
  • Enjoy hot breakfasts, picnic lunches, and hot suppers. And, we'll take care of the meals and facility cleanup for you.
  • You'll be given a half day to explore the area, please be prepared to purchase your evening meal on that day.
  • You and your group will make new friends while serving on project teams with people from other churches. Or, if you desire, we can keep you together with people from your own group.
  • Safety is priority #1. A minimum of 1 adult is required for every 5 teenagers. Power saws are used by adults only. Plus, you’ll have comprehensive safety training. And, all adults (staff and participants) 21+ are required to be screened with formal background checks through a National Criminal Indicator Database.
  • Trips are for youth groups (minimum one adult and one teenager). Senior high trips are for ages 14-20…Junior/Senior trips for ages 12-20. Plan to bring at least one adult (age 21 or over) for every 5 teenagers. Adults serve on project teams with teenagers.
  • Additional adults (beyond the 5-to-1 ratio), may apply online for a staff position. If chosen as a volunteer staff member, your registration fee is waived.
  • Registration includes lodging, meals, construction materials and/or project supplies, a theme t-shirt, development of program and devotions, comprehensive project preparation and online leader manual, program supplies, Mission Handbook, project selection, project organization administration, staff, and unlimited customer support.
  • You’ll need to provide transportation for your group to and from your lodging location…and your vehicles will be used to provide daily transport back and forth from the project sites.
  • Be prepared to bring supplies such as ladders, painting supplies, and construction tools including circular saws, electric drills, hammers, etc.
