Peru Trip Details

Description

The boat is now ready, and waiting to be filled by adventurous girlfriends like you! So hop onboard with Girlfriends Unlimited and Group Workcamps Foundation on an exciting mission trip to the jungles of Peru!

This special trip is a unique “women serving women” mission to the river villages of the Amazon rainforests of Peru. Imagine yourself meeting and ministering God’s love to the women of these remote villages. Imagine teaching women a handicraft to help them increase their family income, or giving vital health information that could prevent an injury or illness. And just imagine this—you could share the love of Jesus and make a heart to heart girlfriend connection with a woman in the distant jungles of the Amazon!

Transportation

You will be responsible for air travel to Lima, Peru; where you will be greeted by our staff. Additional travel to your final destination will be provided by Group Workcamps and is included in the trip cost. Also, during your mission trip, Group Workcamps will provide transport to and from project sites.

Excursions

In order to experience the unique qualities of the community you are serving, some participants choose to plan an excursion for before or after their mission trip. Peru is rich in Incan culture and history. Many tourists from around the world flock to Machu Picchu every year and Lima is a large city, full of diverse cultural experiences. We can provide you with some ideas to research online or with your travel agent.

Food

You’ll enjoy three meals a day…a blend of American and indigenous foods. The food will be prepared by a cook who has been trained in proper food handling but may lack the variety you are accustomed to.

Lodging

You will lodge on the Evangelista boat. Accommodations will include areas for groups to room together by gender, a common eating area, and a program area. Plan to sleep in bunks where you'll need to bring a pillow and bedding, but not a mattress. Depending on the gender make up of your trip, some participants may be sleeping in hammocks to set up on deck with the staff. Showers will be available, however, they are in tiny cabins and you will be bathing in cool river water. PLEASE, make sure everyone in your group brings a swimming suit to be prepared for any showering situation.

Plan to bring a personal BATTERY POWERED fan. No phones will be available; however, there will always be an emergency phone onsite. Also, cell phone service will be very limited but if you have international service, you may bring your phone and try it out. You will not have access to the internet and we cannot guarantee that any mail will be delivered.

Service Projects

You will meet and minister God’s love to the women of these remote Peru villages. You may teach women a handicraft to help them increase their family income, give vital health information that could prevent an injury or illness, or serve in other meaningful ways. And just imagine this—you could share the love of Jesus and make a heart to heart connection with a woman in the distant jungles of the Amazon.

Programming

Each evening, everyone will gather for a time of intimate, informal, interactive, God-centered worship and devotional time coordinated by a staff member. They are an integral part of the mission trip experience designed to pull together the spiritual aspects of your time in service to others.

Your mission trip will be run by highly-trained, ministry-minded staff who work closely with national contacts to serve in the most effective manner.

Travel Considerations

Peru has a rich history and culture. You can find out more online about the people and culture of Peru.

Apparel

Please remember that you are entering another culture where people will have conservative standards of dress and also not have access to the variety of clothing we are accustomed to in the U.S. Your dress should reflect a respect for conservative culture and Christian modesty standards. It is best if you do not dress in a manner that would draw attention to yourself.
