When Hurricane Ike came ashore this summer in the Golden Triangle (Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange, TX), it pushed so much water that it washed away entire neighborhoods on Bolivar Peninsula and flooded nearly every home in Bridge City. This same storm destroyed nearly every business and residence in downtown Galveston and also pushed up into the bays inundating towns like San Leon.
A hurricane is a tragedy where people are impacted for years...with homes that need cleanup, repair and sometimes pure rebuilding. And, our teams are now working to find a good location for you and your youth group to help the people of Texas next summer.
Hurricane recovery is meaningful work that you and your youth group can provide.

At Group Workcamps, the #1 goal is to help kids grow closer to Christ through service to others.
As your preteens organize the home of an elderly person, stock a food pantry, or tidy-up a human service agency—they’ll be learning to convey what Christ’s love looks like…and have a blast doing it! Plus, devotions and evening programs help them make the connection between their service and their faith.

The Micah Experience is designed for Catholic parishes that prefer programming specifically created for Catholic youth over ecumenical Group Workcamps. Each year, some Catholic parishes participate in The Micah Experience, and others in Group Workcamps.
The Micah Experience is developed and organized by Group Workcamps with programming help and advice from Catholic youth ministry experts across the country.
